Blakeney Quayside 2 moored boats
Blakeney Quay

2 plein air paintings at Blakeney looking at the same pair of boats form different directions

One week in Blakeney painting the North Norfolk Coast.
A great week painting plein air with really good weather. Discovering the form and colour of the boats moored along the quay at Blakeney. The quayside castes a shadow from which the boats emerge into the light. The contrast between light and shadow is superb.

An advanatage of being on the North Norfolk Coast in March is that the sun arcs from east to west without climbing too high in the sky. This makes it easier for plein air painting. I am excited to explore the shapes and colours and surprised as I have avoided painting boats in the past…now I can’t understand why!
